Using FairSplitter to split expenses with friends

FairSplitter is a free iOS app for splitting expenses with friends and groups. This page covers the basics and links to detailed guides for each workflow.

What FairSplitter Does

  • Split any expense equally, by exact amount, by percentage, or by shares
  • Track group expenses for trips, apartments, couples, events, or projects
  • Record settlements when payments happen — via cash, Venmo, PayPal, UPI, bank transfer, or any method
  • Work offline — add expenses anywhere, sync when reconnected
  • Multi-currency — log expenses in any currency with automatic conversion
  • No account required for friends — add anyone by name or phone number; they don't need the app

Everything is free. There is no subscription or premium tier.

The Home Screen

When you open FairSplitter, you land on the Home tab. The tab bar at the bottom has four tabs: Home, Groups, Activity, Profile.

The Home screen shows:

  • Your balance card — your net balance across all friends and groups (green if others owe you, red if you owe others), with sub-totals for "owed to you" and "you owe"
  • Balances with Friends — a list of everyone you share expenses with, showing their name, whether they owe you (green) or you owe them (red), and the amount
  • + button — floating button in the bottom-right corner to add a new expense

Tap any friend's name to see your full expense history with them.
